Windows 11 KB5018427 is now available for version 22H2 (Windows 11 2022 Update) with a lot of quality improvements. This is the first patch for Windows 11 version 22H2 and KB5018427 offline installers are also available for download on Microsoft Update Catalog, but the patch can always be installed via Windows Update.

KB5018427 is a ‘security’ update and it’s marked as ‘important’ which means Microsoft will download and install it for you at some point in future. In other words, if you want to skip this particular cumulative update, you’ll need to pause it by hitting on the ‘pause updates’ button for up to 7 days.

This cumulative update is rolling out as part of the Windows 11 October 2022 Update. The focus of the update is on quality improvements and security fixes, so doesn’t come with new features like File Explorer tabs and overflow taskbar UI. Those features are expected to ship later this year month as an optional update (Moment 1).

To grab the update, go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates. You’ll see the following patch:

If you’re unable to download the update due to unhelpful error messages, you can always rely on Microsoft’s Update Catalog. The Update Catalog is a library of updates published by the tech giant in the past several months. You can search the above KB package in the catalog and click on the ‘download’ button to grab the offline installer.

The offline installer is offered in .msu file format. To get started, simply double-click on the file and follow the on-screen instructions. The offline installer apparently works without an active internet connection and a reboot is still required to finish installing the updates.
